Mexico’s Velas Resorts want everyone to celebrate the Day of the Dead (Dia de Los Muertos) even if it’s virtual. That’s why the resorts in Los Cabos, Riviera Maya, Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta have set up a virtual celebration through its magazine.
The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday designed to honor and remember deceased loved ones and is celebrated with traditional foods and drinks and decorating altars on the loved one’s grave sites. It is celebrated on Nov. 1 and 2.
One of the traditional dishes is Oaxaca-style Pan de Muertos or dead bread. The recipe for this intriguing bread is below:
4 1/2 cups of flour
6 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 cups butter, melted
3 eggs
2 1/2 tsp. anise
1/2 cup warm water
1/3 cup yeast
2 1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. egg yolk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Dissolve yeast in warm water; add flour and sugar
Knead well and add butter, salt, eggs and anise
Mix and let it rest for 20 minutes
Knead to remove the air and give it the necessary shape
Grease a baking dish and place the dough on tray
Varnish with a beaten egg yolk and sprinkle anise grains on top
Bake for 40 minutes
