When both Hallmark and Lifetime film holiday themed movies in your town, you know it is picture perfect for Christmas. Meet Dahlonega,GA, where every year they host an Old FashionedChristmas, complete with carriage rides, Santa, a festival of trees, caroling (in costumes_ and a “magically” lit square.  The celebration goes on until Jan. 9, 2022.
This national historic register town, with its 1800s storefronts and great restaurants, is beautiful anytime, but really sparkles during the Holiday Season.  For 2021, an extended season gives visitors an extra week to experience the town’s Hallmark-esque ambiance encouraging people to spread visits out and keep traffic and crowds to a minimum.
Bedecked in thousands of twinkling lights, a show-stopping two-story Christmas tree on the square and the second annual Festival of Trees with 10-12 brightly decorated Christmas trees on display outside in Hancock Park, the town looks and feels like a holiday wonderland.  Of note, all of the trees used in the Festival of Trees will be wild trees that will be planted at the end of the season. Family-friendly holiday special activities include carriage rides (additional cost), socially-distanced visits with Santa, boutique holiday shopping as Dahlonega’s eclectic selection of merchants offer extended hours and the annual Christmas Market, put on by the Dahlonega Women’s Club, a live nativity, old-time carolers and a holiday show at the historic Holly Theater.

Holiday light shows are one of the best things about the holidays and with many of them being drive-through, it’s as safe as it is fun.
The World of Illumination is the world’s largest drive-through animated light show with locations in Tempe and Glendale, AZ, but now a third location, in Marietta, GA., a suburb of Atlanta, will open in November. The Georgia park, called Candy Rush, will be located at Six Flags White Water and will feature Christmas and candy-themed attractions with millions of lights set to holiday music. There will be color galore with more than 16 million different shades of RGB LED lights, as well as hundreds of animated displays including a 40-foot trio of candy canes. Another highlight will be a 500-foot long tunnel that also serves as Santa’s magic portal with a gingerbread village, sugar plum fairies and lit-up treats.
Each theme park is different. While the Atlanta-area’s park motif is Candy Rush; in Tempe, the theme is Arctic Adventure with a 32-foot Sunny the Snowman and his tundra-bound friends. Over in Glendale, the theme is a Rockin’ Christmas with life-sized musical notes and a retro Santa.
The parks are COVID-friendly with visitors enjoying the experience in their cars. Online reservations are a must.
The Marietta park will run from Nov. 13 through Jan. 3 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week, including holidays. Cost is $35 per vehicle on weekdays, $45 on the weekend. Tempe will open on Nov. 10 until Jan. 3 from 6 to 10 p.m. Cost is $29 on weekdays, $39 on weekends. In Glendale, the park will be open from Nov. 6 through Jan. 3 from 6 to 10 p.m. Cost is $29 to $39. A portion of all proceeds in Georgia  benefits the Make-A-Wish Georgia Foundation, while the other two parks will make donations to Make-A-Wish Arizona.
