There are few things in life more painful than a pinched nerve. Well, how about going on a road trip with a pinch nerve? That’s exactly what happened to us when we had to go on a six-hour trip from Atlanta to Seaside, FL, and all we can say is: thank goodness we drove a Genesis G90 RWD 3.3.
After six visits to the chiropractor, who strongly suggested canceling, we drove the Genesis G90 down and it saved the day and the trip! Why? First off, it’s an amazing car with a smooth ride and lots of features. One of those was the 22-way power driver seat (the front passenger gets a mere 16 options). This lumbar back saver allowed us to alter the back of the seat so many times and in so many ways that our back never cramped up. Sometimes we drove in a more upright position; other times we stretched out our back with a little bit of an inclining position. Throughout the trip we kept adjusting the controls so that our back was positioned comfortably. And, we alternatively used the heated and ventilated front seats. If this was comfortable ride for someone with a pinched nerve, just imagine how fantastic it is for a healthy person!
The other amazing safety feature was the Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, which tells you when cars are coming when you’re trying to back out. For one who could barely turn in any real way, this was a lifesaver as our driveway backed out into 30-A, the main drag on the Emerald Coast. Again, even under normal times, it would be highly welcomed as large bushes blocked the view of the street and you wouldn’t know a car was coming until the back half of the car was exposed. It truly saved us a few accidents.
Even in the best of health, we would love to do a road trip with the Genesis G90. It’s the personification of a full-size luxury car that has everything you need and want (even if you didn’t know it!). There is smart cruise control, intelligent drive moves, multi-view camera system and, our favorite, the heads-up display that told us our speed, the speed limit and, linked to the GPS, what you need to do next and how far it will be until the next exit. Simple, not distracting, but so welcomed especially in those small rural towns where the speed limit suddenly drops and you’re making the acquaintance of the local police.
Yes, we are fans of this sedan. While many think you need a big SUV for a trip to the beach, we believe this Genesis might change your mind. It’s plenty roomy. The driver gets 41.1 inches of head room and 46.3 inches of leg room. The shotgun rider get 38 inches of head room and a 37.8 inches of leg room. The trunk volume is 15.7 cubic inches that handled all the beach paraphernalia we needed.
The 365-horsepower 3.3L twin turbocharged V6 engine took on the highway with ease and the active suspension system handled the country pot holes with ease. It averages 20 miles per gallon overall and starts at about $72,000. This is a fully loaded luxury car that delivers — and at a lower price than its competitors. Genesis, once again, has raised the bar on luxury and value.
